The most important apps in our toolkit is School Ping. Hazel Oak moved to a digital method of school wide communication in early 2020 and it is imperative that all parents and carers are confident in accessing this.

SchoolPing is frequently used to:

  • Share important and timely information with families (including newsletters, parent and carer evening information, Zoom links, invitations to training sessions etc)
  • Obtain necessary written permissions
  • Gain written information from parent/ carers

Hazel Oak began trialling Seesaw through April 2020 and decided that it appeared to the most accessible platform for our students to engage with learning from home. From September 2020, our teachers and students have been using Seesaw in class, and in the case of class closure from home, for:

  • Learning activities 
  • Summative assessment of a learning activity
  • Providing feedback 
  • Supporting instruction of learning activities with audio/ video recordings

Seesaw can be used on any device and all students have access to Seesaw from their school iPads. Log-in details can be found in your child’s diary. For further information regarding Seesaw and how it can be used, please watch:

Through the pandemic, we have used Zoom as our main software platform for video communication between teachers and pupils when remote learning. We may also use Zoom for:

  • Host brief morning and afternoon Wellbeing check-ins using the Zones of Regulation
  • Virtual meetings
  • Staff training sessions
  • Assemblies
  • Whole School events such as: Hazel Oak’s Got (Virtual) Talent, Christmas Carols Singalong, World Book Day
  • Virtual coffee mornings with parents and carers

We use Tapestry Online in the Early Years as an online learning journal which builds a special record of each child’s individual learning journey.

Photos, videos and diary entries are stored securely online and shared only between teaching staff and parent/carer.

 MyMaths is an interactive online teaching website used to build pupil engagement and consolidate maths knowledge. 

The students accessing MyMaths will have log-in details written into their school diaries but the log-in process is outlined below.

SurveyMonkey has been a helpful tool to display survey questions for students, parents and carers. 

Throughout lockdowns, we were able to gain weekly feedback from students to gauge how they went accessing their online learning, how difficult or engaging they believed their Seesaw activities were etc.

Any time a survey is sent out (either via SchoolPing for parents and carers or Seesaw for students) you just need to click the link and answer survey questions. There won’t be any need to log in or create an account.
